Tbilisi City Hall reports that the Municipal Inspection has prevented an attempt to illegally occupy up to 40 hectares of municipal land in a recreational zone in Gldani district.
The municipality states that unauthorized construction was identified on undeveloped municipal territory, where individuals had placed 14 unfinished small-scale permanent structures, 27 temporary constructions, and wire fences.
The City Hall notes that parts of the land had also been fenced off with metal structures, which were allegedly intended to facilitate the occupation of the territory and prepare it for construction.
The recreational zone in Gldani covers more than 300 hectares. The municipality estimates that up to 40 hectares of the area had been occupied through unauthorized structures and fencing. The territory remains undeveloped and uninhabited, it adds.
The Municipal Inspection reports that it had repeatedly warned those responsible to stop the works and remove the structures, but the requests were not followed.
During a special operation, the Inspection dismantled the unauthorized buildings and structures, cleared the area, and removed construction waste from the site, the City Hall announces.
“We will continue taking effective measures to prevent illegal construction and the seizure of municipal land. Today, we held a large-scale operation in Gldani and freed a recreational zone owned by the municipality from unauthorized occupation,” said Gogi Chikovani, head of the Tbilisi Municipal Inspection.
Chikovani called on citizens to comply with legal requirements, adding that the Municipal Inspection would continue responding to violations with the support of law enforcement agencies.
