Travel time on the Tbilisi–Batumi and Batumi–Tbilisi railway routes has been reduced to four hours, Georgian Railway Director General Lasha Abashidze said.
He said that the travel time previously stood at five hours and 30 minutes.
“Travel duration is now four hours. This is a significant improvement. In recent times, we have carried out major capital works on railway tracks and infrastructure, which allowed us to increase speeds on certain sections. These works enabled us to increase speed on the rehabilitated sections, remove restrictions, and allow passengers to travel safely from Tbilisi to Batumi in four hours,” Lasha Abashidze said.
He also said that Georgian Railway has already completed the rehabilitation of several stations. The company’s goal is to fully modernize not only stations located on main railway lines but also suburban stations.
“Rehabilitation of 5–7 stations is already underway, and this year we want to add five more stations. Next year, we also aim to complete the rehabilitation of the stations entirely,” Abashidze said.
