The court found Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” guilty of disrespecting the court.
By the decision of Judge Nino Elieshvili, Nika Melia was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. However, the sentence was absorbed by a previous verdict issued against him, meaning that Melia is expected to leave prison again in December 2026.
For reference, Melia was charged with contempt of court, specifically for verbally insulting Judge Tornike Kochkiani of the Administrative Cases Panel.
Melia was charged under Article 366(2) of the Criminal Code of Georgia (disrespect for the court, expressed through insulting a judge), which carries a punishment of up to two years in prison.
