The US takes friendship with the Georgian people seriously, and the impetus for the MEGOBARI Act is growing in Congress, – the Helsinki Commission wrote on X.
“We welcome new supporters [of the MEGOBARI Act]: Friends of Georgia Co-Chairs Austin Scott and Gerry Connolly, as well as Congressmen Don Bacon, Lloyd Doggett and Mike Lawler,” the Helsinki Commission said in a statement.
The MEGOBARI Act envisages sanctions against Georgian officials responsible for undermining Georgia’s democracy and tasks relevant U.S. government agencies to report to Congress about the improper influence and sanctions evasion, as well as the Russian intelligence assets in Georgia.
