Creditinfo Georgia: nearly 2 million Georgians have financial-sector debt

Creditinfo Georgia: nearly 2 million Georgians have financial-sector debt

Around 23.2% of Georgia’s economically active population is unable to repay loans, BPN reports, citing ‘Creditinfo Georgia’s’ July 2026 statistical data.

As of July 31, 375,188 borrowers had loans overdue by more than 30 days. The latest Geostat data puts Georgia’s economically active population, or labor force, at 1,613,650.

Meanwhile, ‘Creditinfo Georgia’ data shows that 1,996,116 people had outstanding debt to the financial sector during the reporting period. With Georgia’s population standing at 3,941,100, Geostat data shows that this means nearly one in every two people had financial-sector debt.

The number of individuals in Georgia with loans overdue by more than 30 days has also increased by 9,004 over the past year and by 1,627 over the past month.

More specifically, ‘Creditinfo Georgia’ data for June 2026 showed 373,561 people on the ‘blacklist’, while as of July 2025, the number of individuals with loans overdue by more than 30 days stood at 366,184.

As of July 31, 2026, among borrowers unable to repay their loans, 102,415 were clients of commercial banks, 302,793 were customers of other financial institutions regulated by the National Bank of Georgia, including microfinance organizations and lending entities, while 5,326 were creditors of other types of organizations.

These organizations include construction companies, distributors, leasing companies and others.

As for the total outstanding balance of overdue loans, ‘Creditinfo Georgia’ data shows that it reached GEL 3.062 billion as of July 31, 2026, accounting for 3.8% of total loans issued by the financial sector.

‘Creditinfo Georgia’ statistical data shows that, as of July 31, 2026, 1,996,116 people in Georgia had outstanding debt to the financial sector, with total loans amounting to GEL 80,182,757,605.
