The Government of Georgia has updated the “State Targeted Program for Supporting Athletes”, increasing and clarifying financial rewards for youth national rugby union teams.
The changes were approved under a decree signed by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and set higher prize money for success in international competitions.
Under the revised scheme, youth teams will receive awards for top finishes at the World Championship, including 900,000 GEL for first place, 600,000 GEL for second, and 450,000 GEL for third place. In addition, the team will receive 90,000 GEL for each win at the tournament.
For the European Championship, a first-place finish will be rewarded with 200,000 GEL.
One of the provisions in the decree applies retroactively to 2025 results, meaning that the 90,000 GEL bonus per World Championship win will also be granted for victories already achieved by the youth team earlier this year.
The government says the updated program aims to promote rugby and increase motivation among young athletes competing internationally. The resolution has already entered into force.
