The National Food Agency said that no violations were found regarding nitrate levels in watermelon and melon samples. The agency is inspecting watermelons and melons available on the consumer market for nitrate content.
“As of today, within the framework of the state monitoring control program, 50 watermelon and melon samples collected from various retail outlets across the country have been examined in an accredited laboratory. The results showed that nitrate levels do not exceed the limits set by legislation (watermelon – 60 mg/kg, melon – 90 mg/kg),” the statement reads.
The agency said, that the National Food Agency will continue regularly testing melon crops available on the market.
