The United States has imposed sanctions on several Russian military entities, including two directorates of the Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian Ground Forces, citing alleged violations of US nonproliferation laws.
Based on a notice published by the US State Department in the Federal Register, the sanctions were imposed over the alleged transfer to, or procurement from, Iran, North Korea, and Syria of goods, services, or technologies restricted under US legislation governing the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, including cruise and ballistic missiles.
The restrictive measures took effect on July 24.
The sanctioned entities include the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry, the Directorate for Advanced Interservice Research and Special Projects, the Russian Ground Forces, and the 1061st Logistics Support Center.
The State Department also added several other Russian organizations to the sanctions list. Russia has not immediately commented on the allegations.
