Georgia’s State Security Service said that two individuals have been detained by the Anti-Corruption Agency following investigative and operational measures into a case of alleged fraud committed by a group acting through prior agreement.
The investigation established that a Nigerian citizen living in Georgia and the coach of LLC “Football Club Gardabani” allegedly arranged a fictitious employment contract for another Nigerian citizen with the football club in order to help him obtain a temporary residence permit in Georgia. In exchange, they reportedly received $3,000 from him.
The two suspects were detained based on a judge’s ruling. The investigation is ongoing under Article 19-180, Part 2, subparagraphs “a” and “b” of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
