The British Embassy in Georgia responded to an act of violence that took place on July 5th in Tbilisi and called on the government to stop the violence.

“Watching events across Tbilisi. Violence, threats towards the LGBTI + & attacks on journalists damage reputation as a tolerant, hospitable country. We call on authorities to prevent further violence & protect individual rights & liberties of all citizens as per the constitution,” reads the statement.

On July 5, as part of Pride Week in Tbilisi, a “March of Honor” was planned on Rustaveli Avenue, because of the planned event, homophobic groups took to the streets, harassed journalists, and raided offices. Due to the aggression of violent groups, the March of Honor did not hold.

Watching events across Tbilisi. Violence, threats towards the LGBTI+ & attacks on journalists damage ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ชreputation as tolerant, hospitable country. We call on authorities to prevent further violence & protect individual rights & liberties of all ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช citizens as per ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช constitution
