Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili, has held an introductory meeting with the United States Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Georgia, Amy W. Diaz.
Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the meeting focused on the current state of Georgia-US relations and prospects for future cooperation between the two countries.
“The parties discussed next steps and reaffirmed their readiness to deepen relations further,” the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting marked the first official introductory talks between Bochorishvili and Diaz following the latter’s appointment as the acting head of the US diplomatic mission in Georgia.
The United States and Georgia have maintained a strategic partnership for decades, with cooperation spanning defense, security, economic development, democratic governance, education, and people-to-people ties. Washington has been one of Georgia’s key international partners, supporting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Relations between Tbilisi and Washington have, however, faced challenges in recent years amid disagreements over domestic political developments in Georgia. Despite these differences, both sides have repeatedly expressed their interest in maintaining dialogue and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
