Authorities in Azerbaijan say they have prevented a series of planned attacks allegedly linked to operatives connected with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Azerbaijani media outlet ‘Bakupost’ stated that the operation was carried out by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan through a set of counter-intelligence measures that uncovered what officials described as planned terrorist provocations inside the country.
Security officials say the suspected plot involved potential attacks on several high-profile targets in Baku and beyond. Among the sites allegedly selected were the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, the Embassy of Israel in Azerbaijan, and the Ashkenazi Synagogue in Baku.
Authorities also said that a leader of the religious community of Mountain Jews in Azerbaijan was identified as a possible target.
The report stated that the planned attacks were intended to spread panic within society and damage Azerbaijan’s international reputation.
Investigators said that three explosive devices had been brought into the country as part of the alleged plan. The State Security Service reported that the devices were successfully neutralized before they could be transferred to other individuals.
Operational and investigative measures reportedly helped authorities identify the strategic sites targeted in the plan, as well as individuals suspected of cooperating with Iranian intelligence structures.
Officials have not released additional details about arrests or the identities of those allegedly involved.
