Georgia’s fifth President Salome Zurabishvili revealed that in the framework of her efforts with the ‘Resistance Platform’, she met with U.S. Senator Steve Daines during his official visit to Tbilisi. Zurabishvili pointed out that the meeting focused on Georgia’s internal challenges and its growing strategic importance to the United States.

“Today, on behalf of the platform, I met with Senator Daines,” she stated. “He heard not only about the domestic issues here and the series of legal violations we presented, but also about the strategic challenges that exist for the U.S. in this region and in Georgia, which require significant attention from America.”

Zurabishvili noted that Daines, a Republican and member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met exclusively with opposition figures during his stop in Georgia. “This is very significant,” she said, emphasizing what she sees as increasing concerns over the country’s democratic path.

As the U.S. Embassy in Georgia declared, Senator Daines is touring the Caucasus region with visits to Baku, Yerevan, and Tbilisi. The Embassy confirmed that the senator has planned meetings with both government and opposition representatives.
