The US Embassy in Georgia issued a new statement, informing its citizens that the precautionary measures issued on May 7 regarding a potential bomb threat in three shopping malls in Tbilisi – East Point, Galleria Tbilisi, and Tbilisi Mall – have been lifted.
“Following the May 7 security alert issued by the US Embassy, Georgian law enforcement authorities informed the Embassy last night that no explosive devices were found in any of the three shopping centers mentioned. The Regional Security Office has rescinded its recommendation for Embassy staff to avoid those areas,” the statement reads.
The US Embassy advises its citizens to monitor local media updates and remain aware of their surroundings.
For context, on May 7, the US Embassy in Georgia issued a warning to its citizens regarding a reported bomb threat in three shopping malls in Tbilisi.
In response, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia released a statement saying that the relevant units were responding to yet another false alarm.
Additionally, the SSS called on diplomatic missions to respect the work of agencies responsible for public safety and to refrain from issuing public statements without coordination with relevant authorities.
