Romania’s Foreign Ministry has voiced its opposition to Romanian pop duo Morandi’s planned concert in Sokhumi, located in Georgia’s Russia-occupied Abkhazia region, and reiterated its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministry said the August 7 performance was unacceptable and stressed that Romania continues to follow its non-recognition policy toward the occupied regions of Georgia.
“Romania firmly reaffirms its unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
Morandi, formed in 2004 by Marius Moga and Randi, recently performed in Batumi. The band announced its upcoming Sokhumi concert on social media, writing that it was coming to the city despite challenges.
The planned performance has drawn criticism from Romanian authorities due to Romania’s position on the status of Abkhazia.
