Davit Koldar, who was detained during a protest against the so-called “Agents Law,” has been released from prison after serving two years and three months. He was serving his sentence at Laituri Prison.
“Davit Koldar was released from Laituri Prison at 6 a.m. He was standing alone outside the prison, probably so we would not meet him and have footage,” activist Natia Gabrava wrote on social media.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that during the April 16, 2024 protest on Chitadze Street, Koldar climbed onto a patrol police vehicle and broke its window by kicking it. Judge Mikheil Jinjolia sentenced him to imprisonment on February 4, 2025, with the sentence calculated from the date of his detention.
Koldar was convicted under Article 187(1) of Georgia’s Criminal Code for damaging or destroying another person’s property causing significant harm, an offense punishable by one to five years in prison.
The ruling Georgian Dream parliamentary majority adopted the so-called “Agents Law” – officially titled the “Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence” – in spring 2024 despite large-scale protests and calls from the US, EU countries, international organizations and the Council of Europe to abandon the legislation.
