The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, and Türkiye’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumaklı, have signed two memoranda of cooperation aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in irrigation infrastructure and forestry management.
The agreements were signed during Songulashvili’s working visit to Türkiye.
Under the memorandum on irrigation and drainage management, Georgia and Türkiye will cooperate through the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technologies to improve irrigation infrastructure and enhance irrigation and drainage services.
A second memorandum focuses on expanding cooperation in the forestry sector. The agreement covers sustainable forest management, nursery and seedling production technologies, biodiversity conservation, protected area management, combating desertification and erosion, non-wood forest product inventories, ecotourism, and forest cadastre development.
“Cooperation between our two countries is gradually increasing,” said Environment and Agriculture Minister David Songulashvili. “The memoranda signed today with the Turkish side are particularly significant. Türkiye possesses valuable experience in these fields, and the sharing of this expertise is of great importance to us.”
Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumaklı said cooperation between the two countries continues to expand.
“We are further strengthening our cooperation in crop production, pest management, irrigation, and related areas,” Yumaklı said. “Today, we signed two memoranda of understanding. One focuses on technical cooperation in water resources, irrigation, and drainage, while the other aims to enhance our collaboration in the forestry sector.”
As part of his visit, Songulashvili is also scheduled to attend the High-level Ministerial Dialogue to Support Post-Harvest Losses Reduction and Agro-Processing and Increase Efficiency Across the Food Supply Chain.
