Drivers from Georgia engaged in international road transport will be allowed to stay in Russia for up to 180 days, following a new decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The document states that foreign drivers seeking long-term stays must submit additional documentation to obtain the 180-day permit. The new rule is set to enter into force on June 30.
Previously, Georgian carriers were limited to a maximum stay of 90 days.
Earlier changes to Russian migration legislation, introduced in January 2025, reduced the permitted stay of foreign citizens without registration from 180 to 90 days within a year.
The Transport Corridor Research Center says the latest decision effectively reverses part of that policy. The Center claims the move reflects a “systemic failure” in Russia’s earlier approach and suggests the change is aimed at easing pressure on the country’s logistics sector.
