The Embassy of Italy in Georgia and the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts present “Marcello” – a photo series by photographer Yuri Mechitov, curated by Lika Mamatsashvili.
The exhibition opens on June 19 and captures the 1988 visit of Italian cinema icon Marcello Mastroianni to Georgia, including stops in Tbilisi, Mtskheta and Gori. It also features rare moments from his trip, including a visit to filmmaker Sergo Parajanov’s home and encounters with Georgian cultural figures.
The project is based on Mechitov’s archive series “They Only Meet Me in Italy” and documents Mastroianni’s three-day journey through Georgia, which attracted significant public and media attention at the time.
The exhibition will remain on display in the museum’s temporary exhibition hall through June 30.
