Former Chairman of Georgian Dream, Irakli Garibashvili, announced his departure from politics during a briefing, stating that the ruling party has now matured into a united and strong political force.
“I have always believed that no position is eternal, nor has any title been my goal. Every role I’ve held was a chance to serve my country and people,” Garibashvili said. “This was true in 2015 when I left the post of Prime Minister at 33, again in 2019 when I returned as Minister of Defense, and once more last year when I stepped down as Prime Minister. Today, I am once again leaving politics.”
He credited Georgian Dream’s founder, Bidzina Ivanishvili, for unifying the party and ensuring stability during critical moments. “Under his leadership, we avoided major threats and achieved significant progress across all sectors. I believe I have fulfilled the honorable mission entrusted to me by the party and its founder.”
Garibashvili reaffirmed his loyalty to Ivanishvili and the values of the 2012 political victory, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in top government roles. He pledged continued service to the country from a different position and voiced confidence in Georgian Dream’s future.
“I believe this team, under Ivanishvili’s leadership, will safeguard national interests, lead Georgia toward a peaceful and united future, and advance the country’s European integration,” he concluded.
