Irakli Garibashvili, Chairman of “Georgian Dream,” is leaving the party and stepping down from his position. He announced his decision during a briefing held at the party headquarters.
Garibashvili had been involved in the activities of Georgian Dream since its founding in 2012, having twice held the positions of both Prime Minister and party chairman.
More specifically, from 2012 to 2013, he served as Georgia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, and on November 20, 2013, he was appointed Prime Minister of Georgia for the first time, a role he held until December 30, 2015. From 2013 to 2015, he was also the chairman of the political party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia. Additionally, he served as Minister of Defense of Georgia from September 8, 2019, to February 22, 2021. On February 1, 2024, Garibashvili was elected chairman of Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia.
