Georgian karate champion Chabuka Makharadze has won a gold medal at the VIII International Karate Tournament in Bursa, Türkiye, held on August 8-9.
The annual tournament, organized by the Turkish Karate Federation, brought together around 1,500 athletes from 15 countries. The Georgian Shotokan Karate Confederation team also took part in the competition.
Makharadze, a four-time world champion and multiple-time European champion, competed in the senior individual kumite open-weight category. He won four consecutive rounds, defeating athletes from Serbia, Bulgaria and Türkiye, and claimed first place and the gold medal.
This marks the third time Makharadze has won the Bursa international tournament. In 2023, he also took first place, while in 2024 he won two gold medals in both kata and kumite.
Makharadze is a four-time world and multiple-time European champion and has won numerous international tournaments. He is also an experienced instructor and holds a fifth-dan black belt. He serves as the senior instructor of the Georgian Shotokan Karate Confederation.
Makharadze has regularly competed successfully at international tournaments since 1998, winning more than 100 medals across gold, silver and bronze categories.
