Kobakhidze: Strengthening strategic ties between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye is important

Strengthening strategic ties between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, particularly in terms of connectivity, is of fundamental importance, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing.

Responding to a journalist’s question, Kobakhidze said the Georgian government was working to further deepen cooperation among the three countries.

He also referred to the Black Sea submarine cable project, saying experts involved in preparing an EU document had included the project, which envisages both electricity and digital connectivity, on a list of projects of common interest.

“Where the expert component is involved, everyone, of course, understands that such connections cannot be established and strengthened without Georgia. We should hope that pragmatic considerations will prevail,” Kobakhidze said.

The prime minister also referred to remarks by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, saying that further strengthening strategic links among Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye was essential.

“What Mr. Aliyev says is, of course, the case. It is fundamentally important to further strengthen strategic ties between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, including strategic ties in terms of connectivity, and we are doing and will do everything for this,” Kobakhidze said.

He added that Georgia has “very good dynamics” in its relations with both Azerbaijan and Türkiye and said the government would continue working actively to deepen those ties.
