Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan wants to supply electricity to the European market, and the only route for doing so currently passes through Georgia and Türkiye.
“In our region, apart from us, there is no other country that possesses such substantial energy resources – whether oil and gas or electricity,” Aliyev said. “By expanding our export capacity to neighboring countries, we will also be able to enter the European market. We are already present on the European market with our oil and gas, but we also want to export electricity there.
Today, the only route is through Georgia, Türkiye, and then Europe. We must expand these opportunities. In particular, the feasibility study for the Black Sea Energy Cable project has already been completed. However, a second transmission line would further strengthen our capacity.
Moreover, as you may recall, in November 2024, together with the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, we agreed to lay a submarine power cable across the Caspian Sea and signed the relevant agreement.”
