Foreign citizens account for 3.4% of Georgia’s population, or 133,857 people, in the 2024 population census published by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on Monday.
Geostat said Georgia’s total population stands at 3,929,581, while 0.5% of residents have unidentified citizenship. Based on the updated figures, the number of Georgian citizens is 3,795,724.
The agency also revised earlier preliminary results released in August 2025, which had estimated the total population at 3,914,000 and the share of foreign citizens at 6.6%, or around 257,000 people.
Geostat said the revision reflects updated methodological requirements, under which only foreign nationals residing in Georgia for more than 12 months are included in the permanent population.
The largest groups of foreign citizens in Georgia are Russian citizens at 37,715, Indian citizens at 23,925, and Ukrainian citizens at 11,542. They are followed by citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Türkiye, Belarus, Iran, Israel, and Jordan.
The agency said the purpose of the census is to determine the number of people living permanently in the country, including both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals.
“The moment of population calculation was set at midnight on November 13–14, and data was collected electronically using modern technologies,” Geostat said, adding that the agricultural census was also conducted between November and December 2024 using a Computer Assisted Personal Interview method.
Georgia’s population stood at 3,713,000 in the 2014 census.
