European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said that relations between the European Union and Armenia are entering a new phase, as leaders convene for the first EU–Armenia summit in Yerevan.
“The European Union and Armenia have never been closer. Today, we are taking our partnership to a completely new level,” von der Leyen stated, commenting on the summit currently underway in the Armenian capital.
European Council President António Costa also emphasized the significance of the meeting, describing it as a key milestone in deepening ties between Brussels and Yerevan.
“This moment has been made possible by Armenia’s significant achievements in recent years. They have created a unique opportunity to deliver tangible benefits to our citizens, businesses and societies,” Costa said in a statement.
The first-ever EU–Armenia summit brings together top EU officials and Armenian leadership, with Nikol Pashinyan representing Armenia.
The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening political and economic cooperation, as well as advancing shared priorities between the EU and Armenia.
