The Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) organized a study tour in Georgia’s Guria region to showcase local sustainable production and green supply chains, bringing together representatives of businesses, educational institutions, and civil society organizations as part of two EU-funded projects.

The tour brought together members of the Adjara Industrial Symbiosis and Circular Economy Platform, including representatives of New Wave College, Black Sea College, and the Association of Businesswomen of Adjara.

Participants visited four local businesses that use environmentally friendly production methods and innovative technologies.

The first stop was ‘Blueberry Garden’ in Melekeduri village, Ozurgeti Municipality, where visitors explored a high-tech blueberry plantation equipped with a smart irrigation system and sensors that monitor moisture and fertilizer levels.

The group also visited ‘Taba’ Tea House, where they learned about efforts to restore tea plantations first established in 1933. Participants toured the plantations and production facility, where seven varieties of tea are produced, before taking part in a tea tasting.

In Chokhatauri Municipality, the tour continued at ‘Kala’s Farm,’ a goat cheese workshop that processes around 300 liters of locally sourced goat milk each day. Visitors also explored a tasting area designed for tourists and educational workshops.

The final stop was ‘Skiji House,’ a family-run complex that produces local food products, including dried fruits, fruit teas, fruit candies, and jams.

CENN says the initiative was designed to promote sustainable production, strengthen local supply chains, and encourage the adoption of circular economy principles in Georgia’s regions.

The study tour was organized under the EU-funded projects ‘Circular Cities and Regions in Georgia’ and ‘Green Guria – Supporting Local Democracy and Rural Development for Inclusive and Resilient Green Growth.’
