Georgia’s Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) has found that natural juice producer Campa LLC engaged in unfair commercial practices by misleading consumers about the content of one of its products.
The product in question, marketed as “100% Cherry and Pomegranate Juice,” contains apple juice for the most part, a fact buried on the back label in small print. As the GCCA investigation revealed, 80% of the juice is made from apple concentrate, while cherry and pomegranate make up only 10%, respectively.
“The label gives the impression that the juice is primarily cherry and pomegranate, but this is not the case,” the Agency said, adding that the information on the front and back labels was ‘contradictory and misleading.’
Calling the deception ‘notably severe,’ the watchdog instructed Campa to revise the label in full compliance with legal standards. The updated packaging must reflect the actual composition, eliminate misleading elements, and present information clearly and in Georgian.
The GCCA cited the Georgian Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights, which requires clear, accurate, and transparent labeling so consumers can make informed choices.
