The National Environmental Agency (NEA) says laboratory testing shows the quality of Black Sea water along Georgia’s coastline remains within normal limits.
The monitoring includes testing for 13 heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons, 16 polyaromatic hydrocarbons, and other physicochemical parameters, the agency notes.
Based on laboratory analyses conducted so far, water quality has remained within established standards across the Georgian section of the Black Sea coast, the NEA reports.
The agency adds that it is continuing to improve its monitoring system in line with the European Union’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
The agency monitors water quality every month at 14 locations along the Georgian coast. Water samples are analyzed at the NEA’s accredited laboratory, where specialists examine hydrobiological and chemical indicators.
