The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reported that Georgia’s annual inflation rate stood at 4.6% in February 2026, while consumer prices increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items, rose by 2.7% year-on-year. When tobacco is excluded, annual core inflation measured 2.4%.
Food prices
The primary driver of annual inflation was a sharp increase in food prices. The ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’ category rose by 9.5% year-on-year, contributing 3.2 percentage points to the overall inflation rate.
Within this group, the most significant price increases were recorded for:
- Fish (+23.1%)
- Bread and cereals (+13.8%)
- Fruit and grapes (+13.3%)
- Vegetables (+10.2%)
- Meat (+9.6%)
- Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (+9.4%)
- Oils and fats (+7.1%)
- Coffee, tea and cocoa (+5.9%)
- Mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (+5.3%)
- Milk, cheese and eggs (+5.3%)
Health and miscellaneous
Prices in the ‘Health’ category increased by 5.9% year-on-year, adding 0.5 percentage points to the overall index. The rise was largely driven by higher costs for medical products, appliances and equipment (+8.1%), out-patient services (+5.6%) and hospital services (+1.7%).
Meanwhile, prices for ‘Miscellaneous goods and services’ rose by 9.8%, contributing 0.48 percentage points to annual inflation. The sharpest increase within this category was recorded for personal effects not elsewhere classified (+57.8%), followed by insurance (+8.5%) and personal care products (+4.5%).
Alcohol and tobacco
The ‘Alcoholic beverages and tobacco’ group posted a 4.3% annual increase, contributing 0.28 percentage points to the overall rate. Tobacco prices rose by 7.1%, while alcoholic beverages increased by 1.4%.
