Eight defendants in the October 4, 2025 protest case were sentenced to five years in prison on Monday, while six others were released after reaching plea agreements with prosecutors.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Romeo Tkeshelashvili at Tbilisi City Court on June 22.
Following the announcement, protests erupted in the courtroom, with defendants and supporters voicing their opposition to the ruling.
The six defendants who accepted plea agreements were Giorgi Korkia, Giorgi Rurua, Khvicha Gogokhia, Levan Jikia, Lasha Ivanadze, and Sergo Megrelishvili. They were released from the courtroom after the court approved the agreements.
The eight defendants sentenced to five years in prison were Zurab Chavchanidze, Amiran Dolishvili, Vladimer Gvelesiani, Aleksandre Chilachava, Genadi Kupreishvili, Sulkhan Tughushi, Ramaz Mamuladze, and Anton Vardanidze.
Prosecutors charged the defendants with participation in group violence and an alleged attempt to seize a strategic facility. The court found the eight defendants guilty and imposed five-year prison sentences.
The case is part of a broader investigation into events surrounding the October 4, 2025 protest in Tbilisi, which resulted in criminal charges against dozens of demonstrators. Several defendants in related cases have already been sentenced, while others received suspended sentences after reaching plea agreements with prosecutors.
