Former US Ambassador to Georgia William Courtney has responded to the Georgian Dream statement, based on which the April 19 agreement mediated by European Council President Charles Michel has been annulled.
“On 19 July, Georgia in Batumi pledged “unwavering commitment to advance further the process of our integration into the EU.”
“Does quitting an EU-brokered political compromise undermine this pledge? Is Georgia retreating from EU ambitions?” William Courtney tweeted.
MEP Viola von Cramon also responded to the Georgian Dream statement, noting that both the biggest opposition party, the UNM, and the ruling team “play a terrible political game on the backs of their citizens,” and that “All this does NOT help at all.”
“Today, 100 days after the April 19 agreement, it is clear that it has fulfilled its mission,” Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, stated earlier today, going on to announce that the agreement had been annulled.
The agreement of 19 April was mediated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
