Von der Leyen: Armenia can count on us as it continues reforms and moves closer to Europe

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reaffirmed the European Union’s support for Armenia, saying the country “can count on us” as it continues its reform agenda and strengthens ties with Europe.

In a post on social media during her official visit to Armenia, von der Leyen said the country’s recent elections had once again demonstrated the strength of its democracy.

“It is good to be back in Yerevan so soon. The recent elections once again demonstrated the strength of Armenia’s democracy. Armenia continues on its path of reforms and is moving closer to Europe. That is why I am here with a simple message: Armenia can count on us. We stand with you,” she wrote.

Von der Leyen is visiting Armenia for official talks with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, where the two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation and Armenia’s reform agenda.

Prior to arriving in Armenia, the European Commission president visited Azerbaijan on July 1, where she held talks with President Ilham Aliyev.
