The recent government decree, dated October 29, 2025, states that Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Varlam (Vako) Avaliani as Georgia’s next Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the State of Qatar. The nomination has been formally submitted to President Mikheil Kavelashvili for approval.
The decree, signed by the Prime Minister, mentions the relevant provisions of the Constitution of Georgia and the Law on the Structure, Powers and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia. If approved, Avaliani’s appointment will take effect on November 10, 2025.
Avaliani, widely known as Vako Avaliani, previously served as the Director of Rustavi 2, one of Georgia’s leading television broadcasters, a role he held from 2021 until June 2025.
