The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has introduced a new procedure for measuring vehicle noise levels using certified portable devices.
Under the order, authorised units will begin roadside checks from September 1, using equipment purchased by the ministry in line with the international ISO 5130:2019 standard.
Noise limits for vehicles are regulated by a government resolution. In settlements during night hours — from 23:00 to 08:00 — vehicle noise must not exceed 80 decibels.
Driving a vehicle exceeding the permitted noise level carries a fine of 100 GEL and a deduction of 10 points from a driver’s licence under the Code of Administrative Offences. A repeated offence is punishable by a 200 GEL fine and a 20-point deduction, while a third and subsequent violation results in a 300 GEL fine and a 30-point deduction.
The ministry says the measures are aimed at maintaining public order and improving road safety, including better enforcement of traffic regulations.
