Large parts of Georgia remain without electricity following a widespread power outage that has disrupted public transport across the country.
The outage has suspended operations on the Tbilisi Metro, while Georgian Railway services have also been brought to a halt.
The large-scale power cut was reported at around 8:00 a.m. local time on Saturday. As of now, no official explanation has been provided for the outage.
A similar incident occurred on July 24, when a system-wide emergency failure in Georgia’s power grid at around 12:10 a.m. caused widespread disruptions to electricity and telecommunications services. Power supply was temporarily interrupted in Tbilisi and most regions of the country.
The official cause of that outage has not yet been announced. Following the incident, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) launched an investigation into the causes of the large-scale failure in the country’s electricity system.
