US launches new strikes on Iran after helicopter downing

The United States has launched new strikes against Iran after President Donald Trump vowed to respond to the reported downing of a US Apache attack helicopter overnight, marking the latest escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran and raising concerns over the stability of a fragile ceasefire.

In a statement, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation began at 5:00 p.m. Washington time on President Trump’s orders. The military described the attacks as “self-defense strikes” and said they were intended as a measured response to recent Iranian actions.

“The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” CENTCOM said.

The latest strikes come amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, with both sides exchanging accusations of provocations and ceasefire violations. The incident involving the reported downing of the US Apache helicopter has further intensified the confrontation, fueling fears of a broader regional escalation.

Iranian officials have not yet publicly commented on the latest US strikes.
