Donald Trump has announced the extension of a US ceasefire with Iran, citing internal divisions within the Iranian leadership as the primary reason for the decision.
Speaking on Tuesday, Trump said the ceasefire would remain in place beyond its previously announced deadline, which had been set to expire on Wednesday. He described Iran’s government as “seriously fractured,” suggesting that the lack of unity in Tehran had delayed progress toward a broader resolution.
US president claimed that the ceasefire will continue “until such time as” Iran’s leadership presents a “unified proposal” aimed at ending the conflict involving the United States and Israel.
The announcement signals a temporary pause in escalating tensions, as Washington appears to be giving Tehran additional time to consolidate its position and engage in negotiations. However, it remains unclear how long the extension will last or whether diplomatic efforts will lead to a breakthrough.
The fragile ceasefire comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows a series of confrontations involving the United States, Iran, and Israel. Observers note that the situation remains volatile, with the potential for renewed escalation if negotiations fail to produce tangible results.
