Tobacco Smoking to be Prohibited in Cable Transport

The Healthcare and Social Issues Committee discussed and approved the Bills on Tobacco Control and Code of Administrative Offenses, prohibiting tobacco smoking in cable transportation systems as well.

Based on Vladimer Kakhadze, one of the initiators of the bills, the implementation of the current law revealed certain issues that require new legal regulation.

Taxis and boat transportation were added to the list of public transportation where smoking is prohibited in the initial proposed revisions, while cable transportation was added to the list before the second reading.

According to V. Kakhadze, the bills have not undergone other significant changes. Under the proposed changes, tobacco smoking will also be banned in the owned vehicle if used to transport the minor.

Relevant sanctions are also imposed on any type of tobacco-related advertising on the Internet.

The Committee unanimously approved the documents to the Plenary for expedited consideration.

The initiators of the bills are MPs Dimitri Khundadze and Vladimer Kakhadze.
