Georgian officials have frozen the bank accounts of several public funds that provide financial aid to activists and protesters affected by current protests and demonstrations against the ruling party.
Affected organizations include Nanuka’s Fund, managed by journalist and public figure Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Prosperity Georgia, established by former Prime Minister and businessman Nika Gilauri, and Human Rights House Tbilisi. The mentioned funds have provided financial assistance to individuals who were wrongfully fined or dismissed from their jobs because of their activism.
The first report of accounts freezing was announced by Zhorzholiani after which two other organizations stepped forward and confirmed that their accounts were blocked.
