The member of the Parliamentary Group “Citizens,” Levan Ioseliani introduced the Draft Rules of Procedure, amending paragraph 5, Article 204 to exclude the Public Defender from the list of the officials subject to be elected by secret ballot.
As the reporter elucidated, deriving that the transparent election of the Public Defender was set as one of the preconditions for receiving the EU candidate status, it was considered expedient to revise the Rules of Procedure in an expedient manner and create a respective legal basis for the election of the PD.
“The change allows the society to see to the sequence of the decisions of MPs according to the voting returns, it will facilitate the inclusive selection and election of the Public Defender,” he stated.
The Committee approved the Draft.
