Eter Liparteliani has made history by becoming the first Georgian female European champion in judo, securing gold after defeating an Israeli opponent in the final.
The win marks a breakthrough for women’s sport in Georgia, where judo has long been male-dominated.
The 57 kg judoka is no stranger to international success. She became Georgia’s first female World Youth Champion in 2019 and is a two-time world youth champion, having claimed titles in Marrakesh and Vantaa in the same weight category. She also won the European Youth Championship in 2016 in Vantaa and took gold at the European Youth Cup in Antalya that same year.
Liparteliani has represented Georgia at the highest level, competing at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she finished in 5th place in each tournament.
