The fifth session of the Georgia-Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held under the co-chairmanship of Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Nazar Agakhanov.
The sides discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen economic ties. Kvrivishvili stated that Georgia considers Turkmenistan an important and reliable partner in Central Asia.
The Economy Minister noted that Georgia’s strategic location makes the country a gateway connecting Europe and Asia for Turkmenistan and an important transit hub for the wider Central Asian region.
Kvrivishvili also highlighted Georgia’s macroeconomic indicators and stated that despite global challenges, the country maintains one of the world’s most attractive investment environments.
She focused on state investment projects in Georgia’s transport and logistics sector, which are aimed at strengthening the country’s role in the Middle Corridor.
The meeting also noted that cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan in tourism could contribute to the launch of direct flights between the two countries.
During her visit, Kvrivishvili also met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
“We discussed the close cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan,” the Minister stated.
Kvrivishvili said the meeting focused on bilateral economic issues, including attracting Turkmen investment, particularly in transport, logistics, and production. The sides also discussed deepening cooperation in trade and tourism, as well as increasing cargo turnover along the Middle Corridor route.
