A multi-profile group of experts created by Public Defender Nino Lomjaria prepared a report on third president Mikheil Saakashvili’s condition.
The positions of all nine doctors regarding Mikheil Saakashvili are the same.
Based on the conclusion of the doctors, Saakashvili’s condition was assessed as “critical” and it is recommended that he be immediately transferred to a multi-profile civilian hospital for treatment.
The content of the conclusion was introduced to the media by Dr. Giorgi Grigolia.
“We assessed the condition of Mikheil Saakashvili as critical. This condition is rated as critical because he has been on a hunger strike for 48 days,” he said.
Regarding the equipment of Gldani Prison Hospital, where Saakashvili is currently placed, according to Grigolia, the facility is not poorly equipped, however, this medical facility still is not ready to provide proper treatment to a patient in such a critical condition.
“He needs intensive treatment. Since he does not intend to stop hunger, his condition becomes more complicated on a daily basis. All organs become damaged as a result of hunger. Therefore, the patient needs to receive treatment from multidisciplinary specialists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, etc. Unfortunately, this clinic does not provide their service permanently – they can be called, but they are not present on-site 24/7. Therefore, this is one of the factors that we considered, in such a situation, the patient should not be in this institution,” said Giorgi Grigolia.
“In the event of a possible aggravation of the situation, this issue will pose a problem, as the management of the patient’s condition by the group in the Gldani Prison Hospital will not be enough,” the report said.
