The Georgian government says socially vulnerable families earning 1,250 GEL or more per family member for three consecutive months will lose their social assistance status without an additional socio-economic assessment.

Under the new decree, authorities will calculate total family income based on salary data provided by the Revenue Service and divide it among family members. If the monthly amount reaches 1,250 GEL per person, the family will be removed from the database.

Deputy Health Minister Giorgi Tsagareishvili discussed the changes in Parliament. Asked whether 1,250 GEL is enough to support a family, Tsagareishvili said the amount “may not be enough,” though he noted it is the minimum threshold established by the state for access to social and healthcare programs.

In February, Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze announced a large-scale review of socially vulnerable families. The government says more than 71 million GEL is spent on social assistance each month and claims some beneficiaries have high incomes and expensive property despite receiving state aid.
