Google Street View has officially started operating in Georgia, allowing users worldwide to virtually explore the country through 360-degree panoramic images.
Deputy Economy Minister Irakli Nadareishvili attended the launch event and highlighted the project’s importance for tourism, digitalization, and the country’s international visibility.
“This is a very important day for Georgia, both in terms of digitalization and increasing the country’s global visibility,” Nadareishvili said. “Millions of people will now have the opportunity to virtually see Georgia’s cities and landscapes through Google Street View.”
The Deputy Minister noted that tourism remains one of the key drivers of Georgia’s economic development and said the platform will help showcase the country to potential visitors around the world.
Nadareishvili also stressed that Google Street View will support the development of digital infrastructure and create new opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses to promote their services and products online.
He added that cooperation with Google is expected to expand further, with plans to cover additional locations, including pedestrian zones in Georgia’s tourist destinations.
The official launch of Google Street View in Georgia became possible through cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA).
As part of the project, Google Street View teams photographed approximately 13,000 kilometers of roads and key tourist locations across Georgia, including Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Telavi, Zugdidi, Gori, Ozurgeti, and Mestia.
The images will allow users to explore Georgia’s cities, natural landscapes, and cultural heritage through Google’s mapping platform.
