Temur Ugulava, a prominent Georgian businessman and one of the key figures behind the development of Georgia’s modern hospitality industry, has died at the age of 56.
Based on available information, Ugulava passed away in the United States after a years-long battle with lung cancer.
Ugulava is widely credited with helping bring the Holiday Inn brand to Georgia, marking an important step in the country’s post-independence tourism and hospitality development.
He later founded the company Adjara Group, under whose umbrella some of Georgia’s most recognizable hotel brands were created, including Rooms Hotels and Stamba Hotel. Both brands gained international recognition for their distinctive design, innovative approach to hospitality, and contribution to the transformation of Tbilisi into a prominent regional tourism destination.
Ugulava played a significant role in shaping Georgia’s contemporary hospitality sector, helping establish locally developed hotel concepts that successfully competed on the international market.
