Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili, is meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herczynski, at the Ceremonial Palace in Tbilisi.
The summoning of the EU ambassador is linked to recent statements he made regarding Georgia’s political direction.
The meeting is taking place at the Ceremonial Palace, where part of the administrative offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been relocated in recent weeks.
The development follows remarks by Ambassador Herczynski delivered in Brussels at the European External Action Service, during the opening of a documentary photo exhibition titled “Georgia in Focus.” In his speech, the ambassador stated that Georgia is “no longer on the right trajectory.”
Herczynski claimed that “the authorities have chosen an alternative model of authoritarianism and are distancing Georgia from the European Union.” He emphasized that “Georgia stands at a crossroads,” noting that decisions to be made in the coming weeks and months will determine whether the country becomes part of the European family based on democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, or returns to what he described as a “dark past.”
Addressing the Georgian public, the EU ambassador urged citizens “not to lose hope,” adding that Georgia and its people should not be allowed to return to “times of violence, civil conflict, poverty, hardship, and corruption.”
He also stated that the European Union remains ready to support Georgia’s path toward membership, stressing that “as soon as the authorities express a willingness to cooperate, we will do everything to help Georgia become a member of the EU.”
The ambassador’s remarks were reported by Netgazeti.
