Georgia’s Revenue Service rejected two shipments carrying 22,290 cut roses imported from Armenia at the Sadakhlo and Ninotsminda customs checkpoints, the agency reports.
The Revenue Service said border quarantine control procedures identified violations of Georgia’s phytosanitary requirements, including the presence of live harmful organisms on the plants and related damage.
The flowers were returned to Armenia.
In May 2026, Georgia imported 218.2 tons of flowers from Armenia, marking a record monthly figure.
The development comes as Armenia has been seeking alternative flower export markets after Russia banned flower imports from Armenia due to tensions in political relations between the two countries. Armenia has said new export destinations include European markets.
