The trilateral special tactical exercise Caucasus Eagle 2026, involving Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan, has officially commenced, the Georgian Ministry of Defense announced.
Ministry says the opening ceremony of the field tactical exercise was held at the Major Gela Chedia Special Operations Training Center in Mukhrani.
The event was attended by Georgia’s First Deputy Defence Minister Paata Patiashvili, Turkey’s Ambassador to Georgia Mustafa Türker Arı, and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Georgia Faig Guliyev, along with military representatives from the three countries.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Chief of the Georgian Defense Forces Major General Irakli Chichinadze, deputy military attachés of Turkey and Azerbaijan in Georgia, and Commander of the Special Operations Forces Colonel Teimuraz Klateishvili wished the servicemen success during the exercise.
Ministry of Defense says the main objective of the training is to strengthen coordination between the special operations units of the three countries, improve interoperability, synchronize operational capabilities, and facilitate the exchange of professional experience.
The exercise includes training in small-unit tactics and the execution of various operational tasks. A joint evaluation team comprising representatives from Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan will monitor and assess the participating units throughout the exercise.
Caucasus Eagle is an annual multinational military exercise conducted on a rotational basis by the three countries. The training is hosted alternately in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey and is aimed at enhancing regional military cooperation and the readiness of special operations forces.
Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan have maintained close defense and security cooperation for years, regularly conducting joint military exercises and consultations alongside major regional infrastructure and energy projects connecting the three countries.
